From the Rig Veda: “Truth is one; sages call it by various names." All paths lead to the same God, though God is called different names by different religions. I believe there's nothing to fault with approaching God in this manner, just so one is a serious aspirant, and not, as you allude, a dabbler: "to try one thing, then give up, try another, and then another."

Exactly! Sampling the nutritious parts, not just the sweet or easy parts. Blessings!

Gosh, does this ring true! I, too, was warned about "cafeteria religion" and still struggle with it. It's amazing how those things affect us for years to come. I appreciate this take on "Magpie Spirituality." Thank you.

Thank you, Br Jack+. Those messages are drilled so hard and so deep, aren't they? And yet, the deeper call, at least for me, is to an authentic encounter with the Divine - so I wander. Happy New Year, brother!

Beth, I heartily agree that there is value in straying off the path and exploring the landscape. I know that the traditionalists of any religion would not be pleased with me, but allow me to point out that while agriculture is vital to human life and development, we didn't start out cultivating one crop, in one field, year after year. We started out hunting and gathering, which pretty much demands that you look around and see what else is good, and might only be there this one time. I think it's very human to want to be open to new experiences and views of life. Also, magpies are beautiful. Thank you for the interesting post. 💖

Thank you, Rayna. This is a wonderful reminder that our way of being one with the One should resonate at our deepest core levels - at the level of survival, and of our primary, intimate relationship with our environment. Happy New Year!

Beth, this is great. "I actually think there’s some value in straying off the path and exploring the woods and streams and beaches and jungles of spiritual life"

Thank you, Margaret! It often feels rather swampy along the way, but in the end I find that I am where I belong. Happy New Year!
